Web Design Costs

The cost of a website varies depending on many factors. Generally speaking, the more complicated a project, the longer it will take to complete and therefore the more expensive it will be.

Other factors that affect costs are:

Provision of content
When giving a quote or estimate for a web design project we assume that all written content will be provided promptly, ideally before any actual design work takes places. If the project delayed because we are waiting for content or action on your behalf this will most likely increase the overall project cost. The reason being is that as a small web design company we are required to produce a certain amount of websites per year in order to make a profit. If we are waiting for a client, it is most likely we are unable to take on as many other projects at that time.

Meetings
All clients are given a free initial meeting for work totalling more than one day. Additional meetings are charged at double our standard hourly rate as specified in our terms and conditions. We may from time to time permit free meetings when we feel it is absolutely necessary, but generally we try to communicate via the phone, email and instant messaging whenever practical. Meetings are costly to us because generally all in house work must be stopped during that time to accommodate the meeting. If we are required to travel to your premises we will bill you for all expenses incurred.

In-house design
If you already have design work done for your website and simply need some one to build your site for you, this will entitle you to a saving. This is assuming your designs have been created by a professional design team. We will most likely turn down work that does not meet our standards of design.

Consider Funding
There is mostly likely some funding that you are able to receive, the trick is knowing where to look. Business link and the chamber of commerce is probably the best place to look initially. Approximately 25% of our clients have applied for and been approved funding for web design projects. The amount of funding varies, but typically clients have received 50% of the total project price back after completion.

Prompt payment
A delay in payment will most likely incur a penalty as stated on any invoice and on the terms and conditions.

Deadline

If you require work to be completed very quickly the cost is likely to rise because we will need to hire more staff to get the job done on time.

Other Costs

As well as the cost of designing and building a website there are often some other costs for services not provided by us. They include

Domain name registration
domain names typically cost around £10-20 every two years depending on the type on the domain name. Domain names should always be purchased by the client so that the legally belong to the client.

Hosting
Although not primarily a hosting company, we can provide hosting for you. Typically this around £50-£100 per year depending on your requirements.

Photography and illustration
We will gladly design your website for you including buttons, graphics etc., but if you require custom illustration or photography this will incur additional cost if we source it ourselves. Alternatively you can hire your own photographer or illustrator.

Maintenance

If you require additional maintenance or support after the completion of the project you will be billed the standard hourly rate. You will be informed of this rate when you ask for a quote.
